Philip Martin, Founder
Philip Martin is the founder of homecareOS and an independent care-sector advisor. He has spent more than 13 years building home care software and knows the sector from the inside. He holds an MBA from Wrexham University, where his dissertation asked how to build a sustainable future for home care. He has no first degree: he was accepted onto the Masters on his industry experience and two letters of recommendation. He built homecareOS to give agencies one system for scheduling, care records, compliance and billing.
Available for comment on home care funding, the care workforce and technology in the sector. He can usually turn a quote around the same day, and is happy to do background briefings on the record or off it.
Subjects we can speak to with evidence behind us
Home care funding and provider sustainability
Why local-authority rates and provider margins do not meet, and what actually keeps an agency solvent. The subject of Philip's MBA research with agency owners.
The care workforce and retention
Pay, travel time, sponsorship and why carers leave. Including Bradford Factor absence scoring and what the numbers tell you before someone resigns.
The analogue switch-off and telecare
What the retirement of the copper telephone network means for care alarms, telecare devices and the agencies that rely on them.
Four-nation regulation
How CQC, CIW, the Care Inspectorate and RQIA differ in practice, and why software built only for England leaves providers in the other three nations stuck.
AI in care scheduling
Where AI genuinely helps a coordinator, such as finding cover for a call at short notice, and where it should not be anywhere near a care decision.
